Real-Time FPGA-Based HIL Emulator of Power Electronics Controllers Using NI PXI for DFIG Studies

This article presents a high-performance hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) system aimed to assist experts in developing and testing power electronics control board their logic with real-time (RT) models of both electrical mechanical components. For demonstrating the effectiveness this for HIL testing, new industrial doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) is tested based on comprehensive wind energy conversion model developed MATLAB/Simulink hardware description language (HDL) coder LabVIEW environment. The interaction between accomplished by National Instrument (NI) intellectual property (IP) integration node, which loads very high-speed integrated circuit (VHSIC-HDL or VHDL) codes (that enable those two software exchange RT data). implements VHDL code fixed-point variables an R-Series reconfigurable input/output (I/O) field-programmable gate array (FPGA) module NI-PXIe 7858R installed NI PXIe 1062Q chassis, deployed its 8133 central processing unit (CPU). Finally, through uniquely interface board, emulator connects external DFIG board. In FPGA, other communicational logging components’ step-time each iteration $5.0~\mu \text{s}$ . verifying results, comparison made proposed Typhoon HIL602+ as commercially available system. It proven that there little no significant deviation outputs systems. does not have limitation commercial systems adding custom-made
